What is real protection
for our action forces?

Probably the most important aspect is the protection of life. This means that we need to protect the most sensitive and important part of the body as well as possible: the head.

Genuine protection also provides the feeling of mental and physical safety required to fully concentrate on the operation.

The daily life of SWAT and police officers harbours risks that may not be preventable, but can at least be greatly reduced.

In the case of ballistic dangers, these are direct hits by a firearm – from a relatively short distance.

Important: Ensuring real protection means that the helmet must not only stop the bullet but also convert its kinetic energy. The deformed helmet can otherwise cause serious or even fatal injuries.

Police officers and SWAT expose themselves to life-threatening situations in order to protect the lives of citizens. It is all the more important to ensure them the best protection.

Ulbrichts offers the best
protection performance

Real protection against projectiles is only possible when

  • the bullet is stopped and
  • the resulting deformation of the helmet does not cause the wearer of the helmet to be fatally injured (trauma effect)
  • the helmet effectively protects the wearer area against these two threats over a large surface.

Only helmets made of titanium are currently able to stop bullets and, at the same time, prevent the helmet from killing the wearer when it is deformed by the bullet. Ballistics tests at neutral laboratories according to the official technical directive (TR 2010) confirm this superiority and produce the best possible results (0-10 Joules), which are far below the permitted value of 25 Joules which is regarded as fatal.

Military helmets made of aramid cause massive helmet deformations and can thus result in fatal injuries.

The infographic illustrates: Helmets made of titanium offer total protection against bullets and trauma across the entire surface of the helmet from 10 mm from the edge. Aramid/PE helmets only offer protection all around from approximately 40 mm from the edge and holes. The protective surface of titanium helmets is therefore larger than that of aramid / polyethylene helmets by at least 50-100 %. However, the remaining surface of aramid/PE helmets do not generally protect against trauma.

Real protection in case of emergency

Helmets in hardness test. See for yourself which kinetic energies affect a helmet. In this case, shooting with test ammunition 9 x 19 Parabellum 420 m/s – test scenario according to Technical Directive (TR) Total System “Ballistic Helmet” of 05/2010.

The deformations on the soap heads show the damage (also called the “trauma effect”) caused by the residual energy of the stopped projectile.

The residual energy values of Ulbrichts Titanium helmets are compliant with the Technical Directive (TR) of the Police. With a maximum of 10 joules they are far below the maximum permissible value of 25 joules and reach only a fraction of the usual values for aramid helmets. At the same calibre (9 x 19), this is transferred at approximately 60 to 120 joules. A value that involves serious or fatal injury.

Only Ulbrichts Titanium helmets prevent life-threatening deformations on the calotte.
